Mother Read To Me
When I was just a little girl,
My mother read to me.
First Mother Goose, then fairy tales,
The classics, poetry.

She sat beside my bed each night,
Reading stories old and new.
She instilled in me a love for books,
Because she loved them, too.

A mother, now, I love to read,
Here in my rocking chair.
A little one held in my lap
What special time we share.

I wouldn't trade my childhood,
For wealth or royalty.
Because when I was growing up,
My mother read to me.
