Daughter's Graduation Poem

I never knew what pride was
Until I saw you
Walk across that stage
And reach out and grasp
That diploma

What a woman you have become
The woman I hoped you would be
I never knew what pride was
Until today

I was proud of you
When you crawled, sat up, and talked
And when you rode the carousel
All by yourself

I was proud of you
When you lifted that violin to your chin
And played sweet music for a crowd
And when you went to work
And did a great job

I was proud of you
When you volunteered
And when other people
Told me how lucky I was

But I truly never knew
How proud a parent could be
Until you walked across that stage
And handed your diploma to me
